Tales from the Studio...
anecdotes about us and our studios; be they corners of a room or something
more...

My studio is the double garage I
have managed to swindle off my parents. Most of the work I do is outside
of this space though. I mainly build frames and do large works in
my studio. I do love the little world that happens when I'm alone
in this space doing what I love, but I'm sure I could create that
feeling anywhere. The space is just that, a space, nothing more. It's
great to actually
have a space though...

Most of my studio is underground - nice and cool in
summer but probably freezing in winter - I have not yet had the opportunity
to test out a winter in it despite working on it for about 2 years - turning
it from a dilapidated rabbit warren to a workable space. My Dad comes
and stays for a week every now and then to help and we have a great time
building stuff and catching up.
I
love the time when the flowering gums are covered in colourful overflowing
honey cups and I can muscle my way in between the ants and bees to get
covered in pollen too and sip on a sweet gift of nature - right outside
my studio door!. From my studio I can hear birds in the neaby trees from
the small honey-eaters dashing through the branches to the migrant dollar
birds croaking as they sit on a dead branch eyeing insects. I can see
Mt Keira as I walk up stairs from the studio - different every time; from
soft and fuzzy-edged in the mist to glowing gold in the sunset.
I am happy in my studio - a place where I can continue
on my journey of discovery... Greer
